Autumn Sale of Fine Sporting arms
A rare single-barrelled rotary-underlever hammergun by C. Moore. Converted from muzzle loading to centrefire in Birmingham in approx. 1868. The action of Damascus steel being of three stages, from 5 flats, half round at the breech through 9 flats, half round to round at the fore-end. Top flat engraved ‘C. MOORE. LONDON’. Jones’ patent 2040 of 1859 Rotary Underlever, the action and lockplate retaining much colour hardening, Rebounding back-action lock after Stanton. The stock with chequered straight hand grip and steel butt plate. The barrel of Damascus steel, marked on the underside ‘JA’ after Joseph Asbury.
Weight 17lb 13oz, Barrel 45 3/8”, Pull 14 1/4” Sect 58 – Obsolete calibre. No licence required, may be held as a curio or ornament.
Condition report:
Condition M - C, F - C, W - C Lovely rich patina. Action retaining much of the original colour hardening. The bore with some vestigial, patchy light old frosting.
