An absolutely delightful gun. Rubber butt pad, ebonite inlay, richly figured and coloured stock, plain escutcheon, chequered Woodward grip with horn end-cap. The forend with delicately engraved finial. Concave, tapered rib, engraved ‘J PURDEY & SONS, AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET, LONDON. ENGLAND.’, the breech end with ‘1’ inlaid in gold and delicate embellishment. Blued top lever, ‘1’ inlaid in gold, automatic safety with ‘SAFE’ inlaid the same. The lockplates, retaining most of their original colour, with delicate scroll and foliolate border, adorned with pheasants in a glade by Henry Kell Jr, ‘J PURDEY & SONS’ to the fore. The underside engraved ‘J PURDEY & SONS LONDON ENGLAND’. In the manufacturer’s original brass-cornered, leather and oak with accessories. For 1938.
