A ‘PREMIER’ 12-BORE TOP LEVER HAMMER ACTION Ser No 39199
For 1886, No1 of a pair. Ribbed, horn butt, chequered, rounded, pistol grip with gold, shield escutcheon to top. Forend with delicately engraved lever release and tip. Raised, concave rib. The barrels sleeved in 1973. The action flats engraved with: ‘WCSS PATENT Oct 65’ – the Scott spindle forming the connection between the top lever and the Purdey double underbolt, ‘MAKERS PATENT ACTION’ referring to Patent 1902 0f 25th May 1875 , a top extension bolt for a drop down action, referred by Whatley & Crawford as the "Triplex Lever Grip", ‘THE PREMIER GUN’ in Gothic script. The action extensively adorned with the finest avian scenes and acanthus scroll, ‘W & C SCOTT & Son’ to the sides.

Proof .729 (Sleeved 1973) Readings .731, .730 Walls 27, 30 Metal - B Finish - B Stock - C+ Additional Comments: Light silvering to the underside of the muzzle and a small, silvered line to the right barrel. The action retaining some original colour, the engraving wonderfully sharp. The stock having been refinished.
