Finely chequered butt with lion’s head end cap. Highly figured half-length stock with vacant silver escutcheon to upper. Brass end cap to stock, brass tipped ram rod. Richly patterned, octagonal Damascus barrels with ‘ROSS EDINBURGH’ in gothic script to the top flat, bead foresight, notched rearsight mounted on foliate-engraved tang, the breech with fine edging and silver band. Hare’s ear hammer with acanthus decoration, the lock plate, with original colour-hardening, engraved ‘ROSS’ with acanthus foliate and fine scroll edging. blued sliding safety. Richly engraved recursive guard with plain tang engraved with the serial number. A very impressive piece.

The barrel richly figured with silvering to the edges and some thinning to the top and oblique flats. The blueing and colour-hardening intact and rich throughout. The chequering fine, slightly softened, the stock with fine dents and scratches. The stock probably a replacement
